Day 2 — Khor Virap & Noravank

Monasteries and volcanic peaks

Morning

Khor Virap monastery — built over the pit where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned. Majestic views of Mount Ararat.

Noravank canyon — a dramatic red-rock gorge with a 13th-century monastery carved into the cliff face.

Day 3 — Tatev & the Cable Car

Morning

Drive to Syunik. Board the Wings of Tatev — the world's longest non-stop double track cable car (5.7 km).

Afternoon

Tatev Monastery — perched on a basalt plateau above a dramatic gorge. 9th-century masterpiece.

Evening

Return via the gorge road. Dinner in a family guesthouse — slow-cooked Armenian lamb and fresh lavash bread.

Day 4 — Lake Sevan

The jewel of the Caucasus

Morning

Drive to Lake Sevan — one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in the world, electric blue water.

Afternoon

Sevanavank monastery on the peninsula above the lake. Boat trip on the lake.

Evening

Fresh crayfish and trout dinner on the lake shore. Return to Yerevan.

Day 5 — Geghard & Garni

Pagan temple meets medieval monastery

Morning

Garni Temple — the only surviving Greco-Roman colonnaded building in the post-Soviet world. Dramatic gorge setting.

Geghard Monastery — partly carved into a cliff face, UNESCO World Heritage. Ancient choral music echoes inside.

Goodbye, ancient Armenia
